Vietnam Visa is the easiest visa I have got so far. There are two options – you can get it in advance or you can avail visa on arrival. I chose the former.
I got my visa from the Vietnam embassy in Cambodia. But I assume the rules for Vietnam visa for Indians should be same for embassies in other locations too. Best to check with the embassy at your location before you apply. The only things that I had to submit at the embassy in Cambodia:
- Passport photo
- Completed Application form
- Visa fees
Yes, that’s it. No bank statements, proof of accommodation, letter from employer, return flight ticket and all such nonsense. I applied for a one month single entry visa. Paid $40 for the normal service and got it next day. The officer told me it will take 3-4 days for normal service but in the receipt he mentioned next day as the collection date :). With the express service, you can get it on same day. If you apply on Friday, you can collect your passport on Saturday morning. There is no need of agents as it is a fairly simple process.

Vietnam also offers visa on arrival if you have an approval letter from any of the recognized agents. The agents charge $25-35 for the approval letter and then you have to pay another $25 at the airport. Remember that the visa on arrival is only applicable if you are arriving by flight. For overland travel, you will need to arrange your visa in advance, which I have explained in the first section. I would recommend getting the visa from the embassy in advance as it is cheaper and also safer if you are not sure about the authenticity of the agents providing the approval letter.
