Tasiilaq (also known as Ammassalik) is the biggest town in East Greenland. This is the best place to experience the traditional Greenlandic way of life. Though, most of the homes are now more modern but there are still some homes where the old Greenlandic culture is still intact. The town is laid-back and the the people are friendly.

How to get there:
Kulusuk is the main airport in East Greenland. There are only two ways to go from Kulusuk to Tasiilaq – heicopter or boat. You can book the helicopter through Air Greenland website. But if you are looking for a boat transfer from Kulusuk to Tasiilaq, then you could either ask the accommodation/hotel you are staying in Tasiilaq and ask them to arrange the transfer or you can ask a local fisherman in Kulusuk. I tried the 2nd option and luckily I met someone at Kulusuk airport, who agreed to take me to to Tasiilaq for 400 dkk.
P.S – Remember there are no helicopter services on Sunday.
Internet is very expensive in Greenland. There are no internet cafes in Tasillaq but you can buy them at Travellodge (30 dkk for 1/2 hr, 50 dkk for 1 hr). That’s the cheapest I guess you will get in Tasiilaq.
Where to stay:
The two main travel companies in Tasiilaq are Red House and Travellodge. You can check their websites for stay options. Camping grounds are near the helipad but I have heard the toilet and water facilities are bit messy there.
I was very fortunate that I got to stay with a local family and the experience was awesome.
