Today’s plan was to start our motorcycle trip from Lao Cai railway station to Sapa and final halt at Lai Chau. We had travelled by the night train from Hanoi and reached Lao Cai around 5.30 in the morning.
Our route for today:
There was little fuel in the bike and it was enough to ride till the nearest petrol pump.
We had a smooth ride till Sapa. The temperature was around 7 C and we were riding through mist for most part of the route.
By the time we reached Sapa, we were very hungry and we decided to stop at this place for some breakfast. We were not that sure if they had anything good in vegetarian but they surprised us. The spring rolls and noodles were delicious and the prices were dirt cheap. We promised ourselves to stop here on the way back. The locals sitting outside the hotel were friendly too and they seemed to enjoy our company.
Tried out the Vietnamese smoking pipe with the locals..Thuôc Lào. Good for constipation and digestion. At least that’s what they told me.
Breakfast with a view of the terraced rice fields of Sapa.
I highly recommend this place if you are planning to grab a quick bite during your journey. I don’t remember the exact location but I think it’s around 1 km after you pass Sapa towards Lai Chau. Look out for that signpost.
Next, we visited Silver waterfalls. There is lot of mist around this area in the morning. We were lucky with this one, but the next one, which was just half a km ahead was all foggy.
It’s not a big waterfall but quite picturesque
Some beautiful views between Sapa and Lai Chau:
And finally Lai Chau. The city has big wide roads and well-planned infrastructure but there were hardly any traffic or people around. Even though the town had kind of an apocalyptic feel, people were quite warm and friendly. It’s not difficult to find a guest house here; just look out for the Nha Nghi (guesthouse in Vietnamese) signposts as you enter the city. The prices are around $6 – $15.
Tomorrow’s plan is to ride around the scenic Sin Ho valley.
