Getting around in Uzbekistan is quite easy as most of the major cities and towns are well connected by road, rail, and air.
Trains: Uzbekistan has good rail connectivity to almost all towns. There are even some high speed trains from Tashkent. Also, there are international trains connecting Tashkent to Russia. This is definitely a good option to travel in Uzbekistan. Check out the train timetable in Uzbekistan: Uzbekistan Railways Timetable
Flights: The domestic flight connectivity is also quite good in Uzbekistan. The main airlines is Uzbekistan Airways and their service is not that bad.
But if you are booking a one-way ticket, then the whole process is a journey in itself. You cannot book it online through their site. You have to book through their agent in India – Aero World Travels, Delhi. Now these guys will first interrogate you and ask you the questions such as, why you are buying only a one-way ticket, where will you go from Uzbekistan and from there how will you return to India? Apparently, a copy of Uzbekistan visa does not impress them. So after providing these documents, you will have to transfer the amount to their account and then they will send you the tickets. Please note that this process might take 2-3 days, so it is better to do this as soon as possible because these agents seem to give preference to the group visa tourists, whose only intention is to have a good time in Tashkent. A very terrible experience, which shows the sorry state of Uzbekistan Airways and Uzbekistan Tourism. They should rather call themselves as Uzbekistan Sex Tourism. What a shame!!!

Car: This is the option we took as we were bound by the LOI agreement with our travel operator. But we got two brilliant driver/guides in Tashkent and Samarkand.
Ikram was our driver/guide in Tashkent. A 55-60 year old man with an amazing sense of humor and a very good story-teller too. Fozil Sultanov in Samarkand, another amazing person to travel with. I would highly recommend both of them. Their contact details:
